The Treatment of Acupuncture and Moxibustion on Seasonal Conjunctivitis


Abstract
I surveyed the treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion points on seasonal conjunctivitis in the classics and the modern literature.
As a result, I came to the following conclusion.
1. Clear up heat and detoxify, disperse internal wind and external factors was the first consideration in the method of treatment on seasonal conjunctivitis, the others practiced the method of treatment in observing the cause.
2. Meridians that can be applied frequently to the treatment of seasonal conjunctivitis are the Bladder, the Gallbladder, Extra point out of meridian and the Large Intestine, etc., and the meridians such as the Heart and the Conception Vessel were not used for it.
3. The record frequency of meridian points in the literatures was as follow: Jingming (Chungmung, B1):22times, Hegu (Hapkok, LI4):21imes, Taiyin (Taeyang, Extra P.):19times, Fengchi (Pungji, G20):18times, Zanzhu (Chanjuk, B2):11times, Tongziliao (dongjaryo, G1):7times, Sizhukong (Sajukkong, TE23):6times, Sibai (Sabaek, S2):6times, Daling (Daerung, P7) : 6times, Shangxing (Sangsung, GV23):6times, Xingjian (Haengkan, Liv2):5times.
4. The basic action of the treatment point on seasonal conjuctivitis was as follows:
Jingming (Chungmung, B1):clear up the upper organs,
Hegu (Hapkok, LI4):descend turbidity,
Fengchi (Pungji, G20):remove internal wind,
Zanzhu (Chanjuk, B2):ascend and clear up, sweating for bringing down a fever,
Xingjian (Haengkan, Liv2):dispel and purge fire.
5. The Meridians of Liver, Bladder, Gallbladder, Stomach are the first primacy in mixture of meridian point.
6. As bleeding after a fast pricking method in acupuncture at the meridian point around an eye, making clear up heat and clean eye.
